Consultant Spotlight: Bryan Hollaway
How long have you been at Slalom? Why did you join Slalom?
I joined Slalom about three and a half years ago after years of traveling consulting. My wife said I needed to get off the road before we could start a family. So I was looking for a company that allowed me to do challenging work but with a focus on work/life balance and no travel. Slalom was the perfect fit and we had our son a year later!
What are your areas of expertise?
I’m a utility player that helps bringing out the best of my talent coworkers. Typically my role on engagements is program manager but I have also been in solution owner, change lead, business analyst, and scrum master roles to name a few. As I have grown in my career at Slalom, I am becoming more client focused to be developing and managing relationships while delivering projects.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
I love working at Slalom because every day can bring something new. Yes, I have a typical daily bus ride to my client site and standing weekly meetings. But our work never stays stationary so I am regularly interacting with new counterparts and learning something new from my teammates. In addition to my Business Advisory Services (BAS) roles, I also lead our Partners for Good work. This is our offering in the nonprofit sector to deliver our skills and expertise in an effort to better the community. I love having this on my plate in addition to my corporate client work because I get exposed to different problems and perspectives, and get to deliver our services in a space where the impacts are directly felt in the communities in which we live and work. Having both balances me and brings the variety that I appreciate in my life.
What has been your favorite project?
The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota partnered with Slalom to help sustain their social enterprise that was at risk of a significant revenue drop the following year. We got to assess their entire organization, work collaboratively with their small but dedicated staff, and ultimately deliver a solution that secured all of their annual revenue from the enterprise plus some. Our project turned a scary time for the organization into an opportunity seized to actually put them in a better position than they ever were originally. I got to the Accountable Executive on the project and was so proud of the work our consultants delivered.
How has Slalom helped you #LoveYouFuture?
Slalom enabled me to continue to grow in my career without having to sacrifice my personal and family life. I am learning about new technologies, understanding and solving complex business problems, and collaborating with leaders in their fields. I get to do this while showing up as my authentic self. At the same time, I am so grateful to have time to follow my passion as a high school soccer coach and prioritizing my family.
