Consultant Spotlight: Aziz Sereme
How long have you been at Slalom? Why did you join Slalom?
I have been at Slalom for a little over a year now. One of the reasons I joined Slalom was how my experience going through the recruiting process was very different than what I had experienced before. The whole experience felt warm, welcoming and overall relaxed.
During my first visit at the downtown office, I was able to see how vibrant the office was, even on a Friday afternoon (pre-pandemic, of course). On one hand I could see people sitting at their desk, working hard on client work. On the other, I cloud see others sitting and having casual conversations over snacks. During the same visit I also met with some of the managers who were truly interested in me and my career and how Slalom can be a partner in that journey. That first office visit helped a lot in my decision to join Slalom.
What are your areas of expertise?
My background is in Software Engineering and Data Analytics. More recently my focus has been in Data Engineering working on Big Data technologies whether it be on-premise or on the cloud.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
My day usually starts with checking my remaining tasks from the previous day. Then I attend the team’s daily stand up call where everyone provides an update on their work and discuss any issues they may have. After that, I start working on my tasks for the day. Also depending on the day, I will have a call with the Lead Architect where we discuss ways to improve our current code base and questions I may have on my current work. My day typically ends with me sending out an email to our Testing team overseas where they will start testing the data I produced that day.
How has Slalom helped you #LoveYouFuture?
My input is always taken into consideration when discussing staffing for a project. This greatly helps in shaping the type of work I want to do and also where I want to take my career. I also receive support on external initiatives I want to participate or work on along with technical trainings I am interested in.
