Consultant Spotlight: Linda Dick

How long have you been at Slalom? Why did you join Slalom?

I don’t want to develop things in a vacuum, I want to have a close feedback loop with stakeholders so I can fully hear their needs, because I believe that collaboration leads to better results. I heard about Slalom at the perfect time when I was craving a greater technical challenge without losing those opportunities for client collaboration, and I joined the team in May 2019.

What are your areas of expertise?

I am a full stack software developer with particular expertise in frontend web development and a strong curiosity for all things technical. At my current client I am diving head first into DevSecOps and Infrastructure As Code, which is an exciting new challenge for me!

What are other passion projects for you?

In my spare time I collaborate with my dad and my husband on a jukebox project; my contribution is the frontend, which I originally wrote in React and am now moving to React Native. I also enjoy tinkering with home automation, with the initial client for this project being my cat, who requested that the shades on our main floor should open and close for her on a regular schedule! When I need a break from machines, I am learning the ukulele.

What has been a favorite project / engagement?

It’s tough to choose, because they have all been so different and interesting in their own ways! My first Slalom project was particularly dynamic and fast-paced, with a large team spread across two Slalom offices and two client offices. We developed the product using React and React Native in parallel to deliver a consistent user experience across web, iOS and Android. This was achieved using a code-sharing approach devised by our team lead, which was innovative and fun to work with! Our team also included two talented UX/UI designers who I enjoyed collaborating with to help translate their designs into reality.

How has Slalom helped you #LoveYouFuture?

I have confidence that my skills and experience will continue to grow in interesting ways through the variety of collaborators, industry sectors, and technology stacks that I am exposed to at Slalom. Beyond just the day-to-day work, Slalom is a great company which cares about its employees and its clients. Every employee, right up to our CEO, is committed to living our values, being our authentic selves, and putting people first. I am proud to be a part of that!
