Consultant Spotlight: Lawrence Reed

Why did you join Slalom?

I joined Slalom because I wanted to grow my experience and my career.

What are your areas of expertise?

Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Web Components, Aura Components, and Flow.

What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

My day usually begins by logging into Outlook, MS Teams, Jira, and last but not least Salesforce.com. I review my stories in Jira and update my progress in preparation for our Daily Standup meeting. I respond to any emails or MS Teams pings I’ve received and then dive into the 9:00am standup for my current sprints where my team and I give updates on the status of our stories for the current sprint. We clarify requirements and discuss any blockers we may have moving those stories forward. The remainder of my day is spent working my stories for the current sprint. This will include creating solutions for discovered bugs, break/fix issues, as well as new feature development. The solutions for any one of these can involve declarative configuration or custom coding. I use Visual Studio Code, Developer Console, Workbench, and the native Salesforce Configuration tools to create solutions to the issues in my stories.

What has been a favorite project of yours?

My current project has been the longest and has given me the most variety. I was able to come into an existing project and contribute immediately. It has allowed me not only to perform in my primary role as a developer in creating custom code, but also allows me to create declaratively, demonstrate solutions to stake holders, and meet with stakeholders to clarify and refine requirements.

How has Slalom helped you #LoveYouFuture?

Slalom offers clearly defined career paths—the necessary roles, skills, and experiences to grow in a chosen career path are plainly laid out. I can request to travel, however there is no mandatory travel (in non-pandemic times, of course!). In addition to this, I feel like a valued member of the team as I am able to have input on the projects I am placed on.
